Basic Function
Works in the research and development group of Crystal Growing to develop advanced products. This development work may include: equipment designs, equipment modifications, process development, software upgrades, and other items to meet Silfex product customer requirements for future dislocation free Silicon Crystals. The person in this position is expected to use effective technical mathematics, measurement tools, management, document results and supervisory techniques in the performance of tasks.
Role and Responsibilities
- Works on the research and development for team Crystal Growing to develop new products and processes to include equipment modifications, designs, process development, document results, software upgrades to meet SILFEX product customer requirements for future dislocation free Silicon Crystals
- Specializes in developing Crystal Growing process(es) for:
- 32-inch hot zone to grow 350 mm and greater diameter dislocation free Crystals utilizing up to 400 kg charge size
- 24-inch hot zone to grow 317 mm and greater diameter dislocation free Crystals utilizing up to 150 kg charge size
- Acquire new growing technology, including the Qualiflow Naratech GIS 450VS
- Assists in the operation of equipment by helping develop preventive maintenance requirements; conferring with manufacturer; maintaining equipment spare part inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
- Recommends cost reduction and yield improvement projects to assist the department in achieving financial objectives; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; compiling and studying costs; initiating corrective actions
- Develops research and development project plans by coordinating requirements with Crystal Growing Manager
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; visiting other crystal growing facilities; participating in professional societies
- Perform tasks in both group and individual environments
- Manage time effectively
- Perform all work related tasks in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions to SILFEX Management
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate
- Carry out special projects and all other appropriate and reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Doctorate (PhD) or Masters Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; and more than ten years Silicon Crystal Growing experience
- Electrical and mechanical knowledge of Ferrofluidics MCZ150 Crystal Growers running >200 mm diameter crystals
- Experience working with various size hot zones systems, including the 22-inch, 24-inch, 28-inch, and 32-inch hot zone systems in Magnetic Czochralski (CZ) Crystal Growers
- Experience with Crystal Growers utilizing charges of 300 kg and greater
- Experience with Cusp and/or Superconductor Magnet Crystal Growing process and equipment
- Ability to work with other PhD’s from consultant firms to develop hot zone designs and processes for large diameter (>400 mm) crystals
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
- Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
- Experience with root cause analyses and corrective/preventive actions
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and other process control mechanisms and functions
- Ability to utilize computer applications such as; Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, CAD, E-mail, Manufacturing software, and Database software
