Basic Function:
The Continuous Improvement Manager orchestrates and leads improvement activities throughout all areas of the business unit. This position serves to organize, train, communicate and promote Lean implementation activities, both functionally and cross-functionally. This position will make a strategic contribution to Silfex through operational and administrative enhancements that improve quality, lower costs, improve delivery, increase profits and reduce primary working capital, as well as work with the functional leaders to access, develop, and implement Lean strategies.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work with business unit leaders to identify areas where Continuous Improvement activities will improve operational results as measured by space required, inventory turns, cycle time, variable costs, first past yields, etc.
- Coordinate the promotion of small group activities for process improvement, equipment improvement, quality improvement, etc.
- Coordinate necessary outside consultant and expert training assistance.
- Coordinate the development of internal Lean facilitators.
- Serve as secretariat to the business unit’s steering team.
- Support leaders with follow-up implementation of improvements and new operating standards.
- Responsible for leading or participating in special projects as assigned by management.
- Acts as a technical advisor to the business unit leader and staff.
- Support operations with the deployment of various Lean Manufacturing techniques, including but not limited to, 5S, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Quick Changeover, Kanbans, and Kaizen events.
- Lead the business unit in developing a gap assessment using the Shingo maturity criteria as well as developing the nomination package for both the AME Regional Excellence Award and the Shingo prize.
- Identify and implement training, education, coaching and mentoring of plant personnel in Lean processes.
- Perform all related tasks in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions to Silfex management.
- Develops and maintain a working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
- Assist the business unit in the development and maintenance of Strategy Deployment tools.
- Supports and drives a culture where the business unit strives towards achieving “best in class” status through the implementation of best practices and benchmarking activities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

- Preferred is a Bachelor's Degree in an Operations and/or Engineering discipline (B. S.) or equivalent; or four to ten years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent with a portfolio of successful projects. (Black Belt certification must be actively maintained)
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
- Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to production personnel, top management and public groups.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as trigonometry, algebra and statistical techniques.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to utilize computer applications such as; Word-processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Manufacturing software, and Database software.
