Essential Functions and Duties

Basic Function:

Primary responsibilities are to manage new products through both internal and external communications in order to provide a consistent, quality product to the customer and to coordinate cost estimate development.  Maintains customer satisfaction by providing product and service information; resolving product and service problems for new products.  As the primary customer contact for new products, assures complete service to Silfex customers from initial quotation to the on-time delivery of products to the Customer’s specifications until the FAIR (or equivalent) is successfully completed. Communicates customer requirements to Silfex staff.  Works with Process Engineering, Crystal Engineering, Supply-chain and Product Assurance Engineers to formulate and recommend manufacturing processes that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.  Interfaces with factory management and accounting to ensure that products have correct cost structures established.   Works cross-functionally to bring together all Silfex functions to provide customer solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Working with a diverse team, manage new customers and products through beta production
  • Provide overall business leadership for assigned products, systems and related services. This will include new product development, strategic pricing, promotion, and product positioning.
  • Deliver consistent revenue and profitability results for assigned product portfolio.
  • Develop cost estimates, supply-chains and schedules for new products.
  • Answering product and service questions, and prepares quotations.
  • Tracks profitability by customer / product, modifies approach as needed.
  • Takes ownership of new products until issues with tooling, fixtures, drawings, specifications, and yield are properly addressed internally; consideration is given to how these issues affect product pricing.
  • Assists Scheduling to create Vantage jobs to meet shipment requirements.
  • Works with Purchasing and Manufacturing Management to expedite product deliveries as needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Works closely with Sales Team, Engineering and factory management to deliver new product in an efficient manner that best meets that customer’s need.
  • Provides information for management by providing quotation follow up, special reports and analyses; answering questions and requests.
  • Provides detailed product information to Customer Service once the FAIR is successfully completed.
  • Facilitates multidisciplinary teams (as necessary) when new product issues arise that involve multiple parties.
  • Effectively communicate the customer requirements to Silfex team members.
  • Effectively communicate Silfex capabilities to customers.
  • Maintains customer records by updating customer information.
  • Develops and maintains accountability systems to ensure projects are done on-time and to budget, brings appropriate resources to bear as required.
  • Resolves product or service problems by clarifying the customer’s complaint; coordinating discovery of the cause(s) and best solution to solve the problem(s); provides timely information to the customer concerning Silfex’s corrective action plan; expedites correction and/or adjustment for the customer and; follows up to ensure correction.
  • Prepares product or service reports by collecting and analyzing Customer information.
  • Determines production priorities in conjunction with Materials Manager, Dir. Of Manufacturing, and Value Stream Manager by studying master production schedule and customer requirements.
  • Works with customer and Process Engineering to finalize drawings that are acceptable for production volume quantities.
  • Works with Product Assurance to ensure that appropriate customer quality approval is received to address issues with drawings, equipment, etc.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Directs integration of technical activities and products.
  • Maintains constant awareness of the latest process capabilities.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform all work related tasks in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions to Silfex management.
  • Application of Lean manufacturing, including 5S.
  • Fosters an attitude of continuous improvement to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
  • Carry out special projects and all other appropriate and reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Eligible to receive deemed exports of EAR or ITAR controlled technology.
  • Acts as the advocate of the customer within Silfex, periodically visits customers and interfaces with key customer contacts regarding schedules, reports and needs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marketing or Business; MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5 years experienced in technical product marketing including new product development experience including competency in VOC and product development research
  • Basic / advanced cost, managerial and financial accounting practices; can analyze and determine gross margins, profit levels and trade-offs between price / market share
  • Experience managing product developments through a phase gate process
  • Strong technical skills - product engineering background a plus
  • Sales experience also a plus
  • Demonstrated bias for action and growth
  • Desire and willingness to be held accountable for business results
  • Ability to work well with a wide variety of functions including R&D, Manufacturing, and Finance
  • Effective group presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, customer specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Can lead and inspire cross-functional team to bring solutions to customers
  • Must be willing to travel globally 5-10% of the time
  • Has basic understanding of make to order business model
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex technical and business documents. 
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to handle customer and internal situations, which are sometimes stressful or time critical in a logical manner and resolve issues resourcefully and tactfully.
